Heraldry: Colours  

Only the following heraldic colours can be  used.

Gold Also known as Or -  Gold is one of the two Metals
Silver Silver is the second metal and is also known as Argent or Arg.
Blue A colour, also known as Azure or Az.
Black A colour, also known as Sable or Sa.
Red A colour, also known as Gules or Gu.
Purple A colour, also known as Purpure or Purp.
Green A colour, also known as vert

So why have I  differentiated between colours and metals?  Well colours  can't go on  top of  colours and metals  can't go on top of metals.  Colours  can go on  top of  metals and vice-versa.  So :-
