Pirate Raids and the Guild Lords

Not Long after the Banfor uprisings came the next attempt to marginalize Porter's Bar. Privateers, licence by neighbouring states, started raiding the ships as they sailed back and forth towards the port, and while the Porter's Bar navy could chase any pirates it discovered, they couldn't really get to grips with the situation.

The city started to lose trade, businesses failed, ships were lost . and still the council could not come up with a solution to the problem.

That was when three of the local guilds approached the Council. They offered to resolve the problem, for what was now becoming the normal price, of seats on the council .

Over the next few months, the merchants of the port sent their ships out, almost empty, to lure the pirates - Ship's Captains deliberately sailed into pirate waters, - and allowed their ships to be approached and attacked - The Lords of the city council sent their own private guards and troops along to defend the ships - while the mages guild provided put mages or magic onto each of the ships .

Every single pirate vessel that attacked was destroyed - and they showed next to no mercy - Just making sure that one or two of the crew escaped to tell of the dire consequences of attacking ships bound for Porter's Bar ..

And with the success of their plan , the Guild masters of the Mages, Shipmasters and Merchant guilds were given places on the council.
