Herders
are hardy men and women who take the sheep and goats up into the hills. Often armed with little
more that a sling or
stick, they brave the hills as their flocks travel around in search of
grazing. When they
are in the hills they
live in small, ramshackle shelters that do little more than keep the
wind out
and the rain off, living on goats’ milk and whatever they can gather in
the
hills.
Their families, back in huts near the village, cultivate garden plots,
card
wool and then spin it ready for sale.
The
spun wool is often sent onto Kevlat for weaving into material; however,
a small
amount is woven locally.
Sheep and goats provide the main meat supply for most of the villages
in the Duchy
of Falmar.
