The Mill is a large stone building with a water
wheel attached to the side. It drives
two huge mill stones that grind corn and barley. Visitors enter a small office area that is
separated from the mill working by a balustrade. However, you can still see the mill stones turning,
the workers rushing about moving grain and flour, and a number of sacks of
flour ready for sale. The miller is a large man, normally found overseeing the way the mill is grinding, however, he will always make his way back to the office if a customer comes in. A door from the mill leads through to the Miller’s house, which is a fairly standard stone built house attached to the side of the mill. The mill itself is owned by the Laird and Aaron Miller operates it on the Laird’s behalf. The Miller Aaron Miller is a large, well built man, clean shaven and almost bald, who strides around his mill overseeing the staff and the operation of the great mill wheel. However, he is more than happy to spend time chatting to customers, although conversations may well be interrupted by Aaron shouting instructions to his staff. There are half dozen workers running around the mill Cuthbert Milson is a third generation mill worker who spends most of his life carting sacks around the mill, coughing and spluttering as the fine flour gets into his lungs. His son, Egan, has been lucky enough to get an apprenticeship with the ‘Good Folks’ up at the Old Winery. | Corn Meal costs 11sp per 50lb sack Barley Meal cost 16sp per 50lb sack |
