The Old Winery

The Location

Just off  Hillside Road, the Old Winery is an efficient looking small holding.  It is enclosed by a free growing hedge that appears to be packed full of blackberry briars and berry bushes interspersed with apple and plum trees.  There is a small vineyard,  fields growing basic crops and a set of well tended vegetable and herb gardens.  There is a paddock and a small stable behind.

The main building  is stoutly constructed and has been converted from a single story barn.   The ground floor still looks to be some sort of storage, while windows on the upper floors implies that there is residential space above.  The walls are made from tree trunks embedded vertically in the ground and then caulked to make a weather proof wall, while the roof is made of wooden shingles.

The Main Building

The main building is 50 feet long and 20 feet wide entered by a set of double doors in one end.

The ground floor is 12 feet high and has a number of  wooden pillars that support the floor above.  Two very thick pillars  along the middle line go right through the upper floor and support the roof .  Two thirds of the way back, a flight of stairs leads to the upper floor, while in the far corner another flight of stairs lead down to the cellar.  Lots of empty space, it holds a small cart, various tools as well as an assortment of   barrels and boxes.  However there is a clear route though to the stair up to the living quarters.

The  upper floor is also 12 feet high along the center line, but drops to 4 feet high along the edges of the floor underneath the eaves, thin interior walls divide the cavernous space into a number of smaller rooms.

The cellar is smaller, 20 feet by 10 feet.  It  serves as long term storage for wines, pickles, ale, preserved food and other such household items.
