Daniel Boone Homestead ....

Not  quite  what I expected -  but then, I  suppose I  am not really sure what I  did  expect.  I  knew Daniel Boone  was one of the Pioneers who settled out  west -  and it  never really clicked that here I was in the East  ....

This  was the site of the house  where Daniel Boone  was  born and lived for the first 15 years of his life, before his family  moved  west. But there is  very little of the old  house left.  In fact the only  part is the cellar. It  remains as the cellar of the house  shown at the bottom of the page.  The  cellar  actually  has a stream running through it -  so its  great  for  keeping things  cool and as a water supply.

The rest of the site is  given over to other historic building that  were  local  or  moved to the site.  The top picture  just  shows a lone fireplace -  well away from any of the other building -  just  standing all on its  lonesome.  It  seemed fitting  for the home place of one of the most famous pioneers ...

The middle picture  shows the Bertolet house along with its  smoke/bake house.  It  was  built in 1737  and moved  to this  park in 1968.  Its a very  simple 3 room design.

There are also a Pennsylvania German barn, an 1820's saw mill, a small cemetery, and a blacksmiths shop which are open for public viewing.
